Led by certified teacher Nico Jacobi, you will explore the essential rules of German pronunciation, nouns, verbs, sentence structure, tenses, prefix verbs, and cases in a practical, step-by-step way.
A core focus of the course is helping you understand which grammar rules are truly important for effective communication, and which ones can be deprioritized. Nico will explain the key rules in detail but also touch on many other rules that are less critical, guiding you to see why some rules can be flexible or less relevant depending on your personal learning goals.
You will learn to use the grammar rules to your advantage, avoiding them becoming barriers to natural conversation. Intermediate Conversation And Grammar
Speak better, understand more, and sharpen your grammar, through real conversation, personalized materials, and cultural depth.
This 3-part course series offers tailored learning experiences for intermediate, advanced, and proficient learners. Each course includes 8 live sessions (60 minutes each), taught via Zoom and supported by Google Classroom.
Every class is built around authentic conversation using personalized dialogues, grammar sheets, and curated media materials, most of which are created by your instructor. This course is for learners who are comfortable speaking and ready to grow. You’ll work with custom-designed dialogues and in-depth media, improving your ability to express opinions, compare ideas, and reflect on broader themes. Grammar topics may include subordinate clauses, passive constructions, connectors, and stylistic variation. Topics include education, politics, identity, and modern German society.

Our Teachers
William Slattery
William Slattery is a certified New York State teacher and Fulbright Scholar who has several years of teaching experience. As a former business student, William has an interest in both current events and business strategy, which has allowed him to gain a critical understanding of the world around us. After studying at Fordham University in the Bronx, William fulfilled a life-long goal of moving to Austria on a Fulbright Scholarship. During his time in the Alps of Salzburg, William achieved both fluency in the German language, as well as a deep understanding of Austrian and Germanic culture. In conjunction with teaching Business English and German at the high school level, William has decided to help others study the German language either by Zoom or in person to help others share in the joys of becoming bilingual.
During his time studying English as a New Language at the graduate level at Hunter College in Manhattan, William gained a thorough knowledge of the most effective skills needed to help others learn a language and looks forward to working with you.

Carmen Ketola
German-born Carmen Ketola is a native Professional German Language Teacher with a Master’s Degree in languages and education.
Her studies and expertise include:

Viele Jahre habe ich in Duisburg und Düsseldorf an weiterführenden Schulen Musik unterrichtet.
